The Boggy Lake story...

As far as we remember, it was some Murray Bridge windsurfers that started sailing this place in the 80's. If you head through Langhorne Creek from Adelaide, go 15km from Langhorne creek T-junction toward Wellington.  You'll see a patch of water beyond a gate on your right. This is it!  It is just a paddock next to a lake with no facilities at all, but it does have flat water and the strongest most consistent wind in nearly any wind direction.

There is usually a big crowd there on the weekends.  Camping down there is common and there is plenty of grass to rig up on. For the flat water, sail upwind to the speed strip (map) next to the reeds on the south shore. It does not get any better.   Being able to touch the bottom in some places allows for easy water-starting.

Some facts:

  • Boggy Lake Reserve is Crown Land under the care and control of The Rural City of Murray Bridge.
  • Camping is permitted,  however no campfires are allowed.
  • Dogs are to be kept on a leash, as the area has been dedicated as a flora and fauna reserve.
  • Car parking needs to be confined to the designated areas.
  • Due to legislative requirements, council must be informed if an event is to be held at the reserve.

boggylake.org encourages safe sailing: always wear an approved PFD; check the weather forecast before heading out; tell someone where you are going; familiarise yourself with navigational laws.

This site is dedicated to South Australia's great fresh-water sailing destination, Boggy Lake.  For windsurfing and kiteboarding, 'Boggy' offers some of the best flat-water sailing less than one hour from Adelaide.  Boggy Lake is popular for it's consistent, moderate to strong seabreeze from spring to late summer.
